SIR Area 16 COMPUSIR
COMPUSIR is the computer interest group for Area 16. There are two subgroups within COMPUSIR, one for PCs (IBM and compatibles) and one for the Apple Macintosh. The groups represent a wide range of interests as well as expertise. There are members who don't yet own a computer as well as those with many years' experience both as hobbyists and as professionals. Members' special areas of interest include hardware, spreadsheets, word processing, data bases, genealogy, graphics, investment tracking, tax preparation, games, and many more. The PC and Macintosh groups will meet jointly when the meeting subject is of joint interest, and will divide into separate meeting rooms when appropriate. The meetings normally include a welcome to new member/visitors and a random access session. This is the time when members relate their problems and/or successes and get helpful input and comments from other members. Seldom does a member come in with a problem and leave without help of some sort. After the random access period, there is a talk about a specific phase of desktop computer use. We use resources from within the group as well as outside speakers. On occasion there have been field trips to see something interesting in Silicon Valley. We meet the second Wednesday of every month. Unless otherwise stated in the meeting description, lunch is at 11:30 (bring your own), the program at 12:30 at the Palo Alto Elks Lodge on El Camino Real. There are no dues. Meeting reminders are sent by e-mail. To see the schedule of meetings, please see the Branch 35 Web Site. Use your browser's Back button to return to this site. For information on the PC group, contact the Chairman Jim Dinkey. The Mac group is currently inactive pending emergence of a chairman. Revised: 06/28/06 |
